Gig Review: Lucie Barat, Brighton Pride, Preston Park, Saturday 4th August 2018.

Coming across like a heavy metal Patti Smith as the sound is hampered as the band is mixed too high and her vocals suffer as a consequence. Indie rock with a conscience is where she sits and perhaps a pop-ready crowd weren’t the most receptive with Britney Spears due on stage in the next hour or so as minds were thinking of glitter rather than guitars.

As a booking choice from the Pride organisers, it was a brave move to have something different from pop, dance, cabaret, and singer-songwriters.

An honourable failure but Lucie Barat is better served by traditional festivals and grotty rock venues. In this way, she’s more Reading Rock than Brighton Pop!
