A five track release from Winter’s. The overall atmosphere is that of confusion, disappointment, and despair. Sonically, the tracks are lo-fi with threads of grunge, alternative rock, and 80s college sound.
The singer sings in a hushed manner which gives the songs a slightly hazy, almost narcoleptic quality as if you’re passing between being awake and half-sleep.
There are hints of Nick Cave in his voice too. Of the five tracks, Cadmus is my favourite as it sounds in terms of structure almost like a Bad Seeds track. The Cruel Kept Pity is arguably the best track as the pace is picked up and a gothic groove is achieved. Something different in the Brighton music scene and Winter’s should be applauded for this.
