Independent music, which includes to a large degree Indie, Punk, Rock and Alternative genres is on the ropes.
Small venues are closing and attendances at gigs are being reported as falling in recent years are examples of this. What can you do? Netflix can wait another night if there’s a gig on down the road. Buy that t-shirt or CD at the band’s merch table if you can afford to. Put on your own gigs with other bands. You mightn’t become rich doing this but you’ll have a good time, believe me.
I put on a one-dayer at The Green Door Store, Guitars Who Cares. 11 bands for a fiver. Didn’t make any money but didn’t lose any either! D.I.Y or independent music may well die.
