Whilst most people remember The Piranhas from their version of the South African Kwela song, Tom Hark, which was a top ten UK hit in 1980, The Piranhas were an integral part of the late 1970s Punk scene in Brighton and earlier material was played by John Peel on his Radio One show.
Also, they featured on the Vaultage 78 compilation with amongst others Peter & The Test Tube Babies. The original band were existence from 1977 to 1981. Piranhas Four are currently active and gig in and around Brighton.
Whether as part of the original Brighton Punk scene or for popularising Tom Hark which can still be heard at football games and cricket matches, The Piranhas made their mark musically and culturally. Now, how do you do the overarm knee drop again?
