  • Tokyo Taboo
  • Yur Mum
  • Healthy Junkies
  • PollyPikPocketz

Band equipment… Guitar, bass, mic, drums, cabs, pole.

Pole? In front of the small stage, there was a platform set up where the aforementioned pole was erected. Tokyo Taboo frontperson Dolly used the aforementioned apparatus to swing around on whilst singing. Tokyo Taboo deliver modern rock by the bucketload.

Current single Whiskey is the highlight of the set with a pop-savvy woo-woo chorus to sweeten the crunchy riffs. Many bands give a performance, Tokyo Taboo gives you a show. Highly recommended.

Yur Mum is a two-headed monster dispensing big beats and gargantuan guitar sounds. Blues rock-based, not dissimilar to Royal Blood in places. 100 miles per hour from beginning to end.

Anelise on vocals and bass leads them into battle whilst showing little regard to her own wellbeing by throwing herself around the stage. Yur Mum –  we like her!

Healthy Junkies are grunge meets punk. Vocalist Nina gives this heady brew a too cool for school vibe. Art school grunge?  Whatever you call it, you’ll want it!

PollyPikPocketz is also serving up a punk/grunge hybrid sound with a smidgen of classic rock on the side. Led by diminutive but arresting vocalist Myura, they set the bar for tonight.

If X-Ray Spex were around in 2019 this is what they would be like. More guitar, less saxophone.

The Lips Can Kill Tour gave me a peck on the cheek, then a kick in the bollocks. All the bands are worthy of your time and money. Let’s hope the Lips Can Kill Tour will become an annual event.
